The House of Higgins: July 17

Todd Ear Drama

Father's Day weekend both kids had ear infections (Embry a double) and then two weeks later we found out Embry's hadn't cleared up. Once she finished her second round of antibiotics, I could tell something was up with Todd. Turns out, double ear infection for him. We knew his original ear infection had cleared up because his ears were clear at his 9 month well check which was some where between there. He ran a fever for three days and was just puny. Poor guy! Even on antibiotics he didn't seem to be getting much better and of course, it was our anniversary weekend when Kiki and E-Pa were staying with the kids. I talked to the nurses line on Friday afternoon and they said that sometimes they need 72 hours on an antibiotic to feel better, so I hoped that was the case. Unfortunately, when we got home Sunday I just knew he was still sick. So Monday we went in and sure enough, the meds did nothing and both ears were still infected. He was put on a stronger antibiotic and seemed much better within 12 hours. =)

I also got lots of comments on Todd needing to get tubes in his ears, but have no fear, I have talked to our doctor about it and their rule of thumb is 6 ear infections in one year. These were Todd's second and third ear infections in his 10 months of life. They may count the one that didn't clear as a second, so we may be on number 4. So we'll keep our fingers crossed he stays healthy!

Anniversary Weekend Away

July 11 was our 7 year anniversary and we were able to get away to Fort Worth for the weekend thanks to my in-laws keeping the kids! Unfortunately, Todd was pretty under the weather and didn't eat much, and barely drank any milk, but he got plenty of Kiki and E-Pa cuddles and was in good hands!

It was SOOO nice to get 24 hours away! We relaxed, swam and ate at the rooftop pool, napped, had a fancy dinner out at Reata Steak House (where we celebrated our first anniversary), and slept! Haha. Sleep being a theme here! It was perfect to get away and have time to be us and not Mom and Dad!

Our actual anniversary 7/11 is free slurpee day at 7/11 so we went with friends after MDO!

Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-fil-A

I guess this week was all about free stuff. July 12 we went to CFA dressed as cows as per the free food rule! hah! And then the CFA cow came around the restaurant and dinner was basically ruined. Yeah, we won't be going to Disney any time soon.

Pinkalicious The Musical!

The day Embry's been counting down to for weeks and weeks finally arrived. There's an adorable children's book series called Pinkalicious about a girl who loves pink...not to be confused with Embry, hah! Well it's turned into a musical and it's at the Dallas Children's Theater for a month long run this summer. Initially I looked at tickets and they were $30 each even for kids so I nixed it. But then part of the Dallas Summer Reading Program, they were giving away a free ticket if you read your hours that week. So we had to do it ;)

The best thing I did was get the musical soundtrack about a month ago, so Embry knew all the words by heart by the time we went. And she knew the whole story line from just the songs. So I knew her mind would be blown when she saw actual people acting it out.

We went with our friends Melissa and Sophie that we went to the Hansel and Gretel puppet show with and the girls had a blast! And okay, us moms did too. It was all SO adorable. Everything pink, they even served pink Sprinkles cupcakes at intermission. It was adorable! Embry said it was the "best day ever"!

Cici's Pizza before hand!
